We also provide matching funds for teachers, details below.

1) The AGF will match $15 /teaching hour up to a total compensation of up to $50 /hour for new or additional teaching programs (not replacements) aimed at youth players or insitutions ( psychiatric or geriatric facilities, rehabilitation centers, prisons).

  • For the second year the match is $10 /teaching hour.

  • For the third (and subsequent years) $5/teaching hour.
  • The maximum match is $1000/year/teacher and $500/class /year.

  • Average attendance of at least ifiteen participants is required. Smaller classes may receive lower amounts.
  • 2) We will match the first $200 you spend on equipment and books for your students. Just order up to $400 worth of supplies and send us the receipt, we will reimburse you for half. NOTE: Matched materials must be accessible to students. Equipment should be of the economical variety. For instance, will NOT share the cost of slate and shell stones.

    3) Approved programs can receive an additional 15% discount from participating vendors, so the fist $200 you spend actually brings you $460 worth of equipment and books.

    4) We will match funds for the purchase of a demo board.

    5) Additional equipment and materials may be provided free at the discretion of the AGF equipment coordinator.

    6) We will match funds for small prizes for youth tournaments up to $50/year.

    7) On a discretionary basis, the Board may waive the limitations (including the requirement of matching funds) for programs which

    • Teach students in underserved areas
    • Serve more students
    • Develop players who participate outside class or participate over time, or
    • Receive additional funding from the local community to support their program.

Other teaching programs (college, adult, special needs and mixed ages) may also apply for matching support. Funds will be awarded based on the nature and size of the program, level of community community support, and the availability of funds.

    Please note the following:

  • AGF grants to teachers do not cover transportation costs or travel time.

  • Teachers under AGF grants are treated as independent contractors. The AGF provides 1099 forms as required by the tax code.

  • All teaching programs must submit a year end report to the AGF containing (at a minimum) teacher contact information, the number of students, level of play, basic teaching method, meeting time and place, institutional setting, source of local funds, and a short narrative of the highlights of the year/semester and the circumstances of the class (institutional support/response, community relationship, ethnicity of the players, response of families/players).

  • For IRS reporting all requests for payment must be accompanied by original receipts indicating the matching funds or expenses incurred.
